Biography
Swedish-born Teamster organizer; co-founder of American Trotskyism. Emigrated 1911; joined the IWW; founding CPUSA. Expelled 1928 with Cannon for Trotskyism. President of Teamsters Local 544; central leader of 1934 Minneapolis truckers' strike. After serving 16 months for Smith Act conviction, U.S. government tried to deport him for the rest of his life. Died in 1960 still under deportation order.
