Biography
Bertha Gober, an Albany State College student, was among those arrested in Albany, Georgia, on December 10, 1961, when police charged the arriving Freedom Riders and their local supporters with disorderly conduct, obstructing traffic, and failure to obey an officer after the confrontation over the white waiting room at the train station. The arrests are documented in the WSB newsfilm preserved by the Civil Rights Digital Library, which records the event and the charges but not individual release dates or final dispositions; those fields remain unresolved pending Albany court or jail records.
She had first been arrested on November 22, 1961, testing compliance with the Interstate Commerce Commission's desegregation ruling at the Albany bus station; both arrests are documented, neither with a recorded release date.
