Biography

Anthony J. Stopa, from Detroit, Michigan, was convicted for saying "young men are fools if they join the Army to be shot down like dogs" and was originally sentenced to twenty years in prison. Stopa served in Leavenworth Penitentiary from August 7, 1918, to December 1921. Stopa denied making the statements attributed to him, and claimed to be loyal to the government.
