Lolita Lebrón, Rafael Cancel Miranda, Andrés Figueroa Cordero, and Irvin Flores opened fire from the visitors' gallery of the U.S. House of Representatives, wounding five congressmen. They unfurled a Puerto Rican flag and shouted "¡Viva Puerto Rico libre!" Sentenced to decades in prison; their sentences were commuted by President Carter in 1979.
