SNCC organizers Ralph Featherstone and William "Che" Payne died when a bomb exploded in their car near Bel Air, Maryland, where H. Rap Brown was to stand trial days later. Brown went underground and onto the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list; no one was ever charged for the killings.
