Suffrage parade attacked in Washington

The day before Woodrow Wilson's inauguration, thousands of suffragists marched down Pennsylvania Avenue and were mobbed — grabbed, spat on, and beaten while police stood by or joined in. Over a hundred marchers were hospitalized. The outrage revived the movement that would later fill the Occoquan Workhouse with jailed pickets.
