Chicano Moratorium attacked; Rubén Salazar killed

Sheriff's deputies attacked the 25,000-strong Chicano Moratorium march against the Vietnam War in East Los Angeles, arresting hundreds. Los Angeles Times columnist Rubén Salazar — the movement's most prominent journalistic voice — was killed by a tear-gas projectile fired into the Silver Dollar Café.
