Battle of Blair Mountain begins in West Virginia
The Battle of Blair Mountain, the largest armed rebellion in the US since the civil war, began. 10,000 striking West Virginia coal miners battled with armed strikebreakers following the killing of miners, until disarmed by federal troops.
