Black Liberation Army members and supporters break Assata Shakur out of the Clinton Correctional Facility for Women in Union Township, NJ, where she was serving a life sentence after her 1977 conviction. She remained underground for several years before surfacing in Cuba in 1984, where she has lived under political asylum ever since.
