Biography
William Schiller, known as Bill, was a draft resister from suburban Chicago and an early recruit to the Peace Corps who left the United States rather than be conscripted for the Vietnam War, joining the roughly one thousand American exiles Sweden took in during the war. He was still living there in December 1982, when the Washington Post found him aged 39 and reported that he had taken Swedish citizenship, his American English by then carrying a Swedish accent.
Living status and present residence unverified: no dependable recent evidence has been found establishing whether he is alive or still in Sweden. He is recorded here as currently in exile on the assumption that he remains abroad.
