Biography

William Mackie was a 49-year-old Portland, Oregon house painter who fought deportation from 1948 onward over alleged Communist Party membership in 1937–39. In 1958 Federal Judge Gus Solomon called the case 'outrageous' but refused to dismiss the deportation order; Mackie refused to identify associates.
