Biography
Boston abolitionist indicted in connection with the May 26, 1854 storming of the Boston Court House by an axe-wielding mob attempting to free Anthony Burns from Fugitive Slave Act rendition. U.S. Marshal James Batchelder was killed in the assault. The Pierce administration brought federal charges against the leadership of the Boston Vigilance Committee. Boston abolitionist orator and Vigilance Committee leader; indicted alongside Parker for obstructing the rendition. Charges dropped (nolle prosequi).
