Biography
Theodore Dreiser, the novelist and chairman of the National Committee for the Defense of Political Prisoners, was indicted for criminal syndicalism by a Harlan County, Kentucky grand jury after leading a delegation to hold free-speech test meetings at Straight Creek and Wallins Creek in support of the jailed coal miners in 1931.
