Biography
Terry John Sullivan was a Freedom Rider from Chicago, arrested on June 6, 1961 in Jackson, Mississippi and jailed at the Parchman state penitentiary. The Mississippi surveillance record identifies him as twenty-three, with a Chicago address — a contemporary press account called him nineteen, the likely source of the age error in earlier versions of this entry. At Parchman, he and Felix Singer were subjected to wrist restraints described as "wrist breakers" and shocked with an electric cattle prod after refusing orders. He served his full four-month sentence; Catholic Worker material places his return after release in approximately October 1961, and no exact discharge day has been located. Born about 1938, a year derived from his recorded age; no reliable date of death has been found.
