Biography
Sidney Wallace Mader, a Canadian citizen, was arrested in Berlin, New Hampshire, on September 1, 1917, under the Espionage Act. He was convicted and sentenced to three years. After serving in Atlanta Penitentiary his sentence was commuted, andhe was released on April 1, 1919. In the 1940s, Mader was the subject of an FBI investigation. He was " r e - ported " to be a " suspected " member of the U.S. Communist Party who "distributed Communistpropaganda " in Seattle, Washington. In 1940, his name was placed on a "custodial detention " list, which would have resulted in his arrest and detention" in the event of a national emergency. " His name was removed from that list in 1945 when the FBI determined that the "subject is not actively engaged in un-American activities."
