Biography

Dr. Ruth Cort was a physician who went into exile in Czechoslovakia in July 1954 alongside her husband, Dr. Joseph Cort, when he fled the doctor draft and the threatened loss of his citizenship over alleged Communist ties. Denied a residence permit and facing removal herself, she shared the political exile that the McCarthy-era pressure forced on the family.
