Biography
Ron Kovic is a U.S. Marine Corps sergeant who was paralyzed from the chest down in the Vietnam War and became one of the country's most visible anti-war activists, author of the 1976 memoir Born on the Fourth of July. A leader in Vietnam Veterans Against the War, he was arrested roughly a dozen times in nonviolent anti-war protests beginning in 1971 — including occupying a California draft-board office — and served jail time for the demonstrations.
