Biography
Roberto Jose Maldonado was one of the defendants prosecuted in connection with the Los Macheteros–linked case arising from the 1983 Wells Fargo depot robbery. His case centered on conspiracy allegations rather than claims that he personally carried out the vault theft, reflecting prosecutors’ broader effort to criminalize the organization’s support structure and financial networks.
He was convicted on a conspiracy count and sentenced to five years in federal prison, along with a monetary fine. The outcome positioned him among those punished for alleged coordination and facilitation within a politically motivated underground campaign.
