Biography

Chicano land-grant activist who founded La Alianza Federal de Mercedes Libres to recover Spanish and Mexican land grants in New Mexico. On June 5, 1967 he led the armed raid on the Rio Arriba County courthouse at Tierra Amarilla, New Mexico, intended to free arrested Alianza members and make a citizen's arrest of the district attorney. He served two years in federal prison and one to three years in New Mexico state custody for the courthouse raid.
