Biography
Red Fawn Fallis is a native rights activist who was a leader in the Dakota Access Pipeline Protest Movement. While clearing an encampment of protestors on October 27, 2016, two sheriff’s deputies broke formation to rush towards Red Fawn Fallis. As she was tackled to the ground and arrested, a handgun went off. The handgun was registered to Heath Harmon, a paid undercover FBI informant who had been tasked with infiltrating the protest movement and who had been in a been in a romantic relationship with Fallis. It is alleged that Harmon had planted the gun in Fallis's pocket minutes before the police arrived to begin clearing the camp.
If convicted of discharging the firearm, Fallis faced a minimum of 10 years and up to life in prison. Due to bias against activists in the jurisdiction, she accepted a non-cooperating plea agreement in January 2018. She was sentenced to 4 years and 9 months in prison.
