Biography

Phoebe C. Munnecke (1885 - November 13, 1955) was a member of the National Woman’s Party and one of the "Silent Sentinels" imprisoned during the 1917-1919 campaign to picket the Wilson White House for woman suffrage. The exact day of her birth is unresolved.

She was arrested on January 4, 1919 and released on bail. Re-arrested on January 5, she was refused bail and given ten days’ imprisonment, during which she joined a hunger strike. She was held in the House of Detention and District Jail system. A full term would have ended about January 15, but no discharge record has been located.

A further contempt sentence is recorded inconsistently: Irwin gives forty-eight hours, Stevens gives three days. Its date and duration therefore remain unresolved and no dates are entered for it.
