Biography
Peter Green, secretary of the Lumber Workers Industrial Union, Local 500, in Portland, Oregon, was convicted at the mass IWW trial in Chicago, sentenced to ten years in prison and fined $30,000. He served in the Cook County Jail and Leavenworth Penitentiary from September 1917 to June 1918 and from September 1918 to August 1923. Green was active in the lumber workers general strike in the Northwest during March 1917. The Department of Justice conceded that Green was convicted despite the absence of any " proof that he "even said or did anything against our war."
