Biography
Peter DeMott was a Catholic Worker, Vietnam War veteran, and prolific Plowshares activist. In December 1980, just three months after the original Plowshares Eight, he carried out a one-man action against the USS Florida Trident submarine at Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut, climbing into the dry dock and using a sledgehammer on the missile hatches. He participated in multiple subsequent Plowshares actions including the Pershing Plowshares (1984) and the St. Patrick's Day Four (2003) action against the Ithaca Army Recruiting Station on the eve of the Iraq invasion. He was the husband of Ellen Grady (sister of Mary Anne, Clare, and Teresa Grady) and the father of four. He died in 2009 at age 62.
