Peggy Wellman was the wife of the convicted Michigan Smith Act defendant Saul Wellman, whom the government sought to deport to Canada — where she had been born during her mother's brief visit, though she had lived in the United States all her life. Her case went before the Circuit Court of Appeals in 1957.
