Biography
Pedro Mario Monges, also known as Chango Caribe and Chango Monges, was associated with the Black Liberation Army in movement publications and the Margaret Walker Center’s archival description of his prison correspondence. He pleaded guilty to federal bank robbery and received an eighteen-year sentence. Brooklyn jail records and a 1974 civil-rights decision document extended custody and his challenge to restrictions in administrative segregation. He was recaptured after an attempted escape on May 25, 1975. His eventual release date and later custody status remain unverified.
