Biography
Orphan Jones — also known as Euel Lee — was an elderly Black farm hand jailed at Snow Hill, Maryland in 1931 and accused of murdering a white farm family. A mob broke into the jail to lynch him and Snow Hill police beat him to force a "confession"; the International Labor Defense removed him to Baltimore and took up his defense in a case that ran to the Maryland Court of Appeals.
