Biography

Naomi Williams was a 19-year-old member of the Black Panther Party in Oakland. In January 1974 police mounted an armed action against a Party facility on the stated justification of serving a failure-to-appear warrant against her — she had been arrested the previous week for soliciting charitable donations without a permit while collecting for the People's Free programs. Williams, in the office at the time, surrendered immediately to avoid endangering her comrades and the surrounding community. Reconstructed from The Black Panther, January 26, 1974.
