Mohammad El-Mezain

Mohammad El-Mezain was a senior figure in the Holy Land Foundation and became nationally known through the same long-running terrorism-finance prosecution that targeted the organization’s leadership. The case focused on the charity’s fundraising and disbursement practices—activities his supporters characterized as humanitarian advocacy—while federal prosecutors argued those activities were structured to benefit Hamas-linked institutions.

Following the 2008 convictions, El-Mezain was sentenced in 2009 to 15 years in federal prison in the same proceeding that imposed lengthy terms on multiple leaders.
