Biography

Michael Zaharibu Dorrough, legally Michael Reed Dorrough, is a California prison writer and organizer against prolonged solitary confinement. His correspondence describes participation in the 2013 hunger strike at Corcoran. Supporters say he eventually left long-term isolation following the 2015 settlement over California’s segregation policies. His current CDCR listing, checked September 10, 2026, places him at the Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison, Corcoran. The case here concerns continued segregation associated with political reading and contested classification evidence; it does not describe his earlier murder and narcotics conviction as an activism prosecution.

Case

California State Prison, Corcoran
Charges: Continued administrative segregation after a disputed 2006 gang-status review
Sentence: In the 2012 UN petition, Dorrough said a 2006 review extended his SHU confinement using political and historical books as evidence. The submission describes actual ongoing isolation years after that review. His later published letters also document confinement at Corcoran SHU during 2013 and 2014. The claimed political basis is his account, not a judicial finding. This was prison classification within an existing sentence, not a new criminal conviction. No exact end date is established for this episode.
