Biography

Maurice Ogden, a Los Angeles-area writer, was indicted in 1959 under a federal false-statements law (18 U.S.C. 1001) for allegedly misstating his organizational affiliations on a Personnel Security Questionnaire, and went on trial in July 1960 — a novel use of a statute previously applied to tax evaders to punish non-disclosure of political associations.
