Biography

Margaret Gilbert was one of four Massachusetts defendants indicted under the state's anti-Communist 'sedition' law for alleged subversive advocacy. The indictments were ordered dismissed in 1956 after the Supreme Court's Nelson decision held that the federal Smith Act preempted state sedition laws.
