Biography
Leo Frederick Burt was a University of Wisconsin student and rowing crew member alleged to be the fourth conspirator in the August 24, 1970 Sterling Hall bombing at UW-Madison, an anti-war attack on the Army Mathematics Research Center that killed researcher Robert Fassnacht. Added to the FBI Ten Most Wanted list (No. 313) on September 4, 1970 and removed April 7, 1976, he remains on the FBI Domestic Terrorism wanted list — the only Sterling Hall defendant never captured. His whereabouts have been unknown for more than five decades. The FBI wanted notice issued by the Bureau's Milwaukee field office gives his place of birth as Darby, Pennsylvania, lists a second date of birth used — April 15, 1950, against the April 18, 1948 recorded here — and the alias Eugene Donald Fieldston, and offers a reward of up to $150,000. Its remarks state that he has ties to New York City, Boston and Peterborough, Ontario. It does not say he is in Canada, and no country has ever been established for him; whether he is still alive is also publicly unknown. He was indicted federally at Madison, Wisconsin on September 2, 1970 for sabotage, destruction of government property and conspiracy, and the exile recorded here runs from that indictment on the assumption that he has been abroad since — the date is the start of his time as a fugitive, which is the only thing the record can honestly measure.
