Biography
Julian Crofton was a conscientious objector from New Jersey imprisoned during World War I. Court-martialed for refusing military service, he was held at Fort Douglas. (Documented in the Swarthmore College Peace Collection's World War I Conscientious Objectors database.) Archival note: born in London, England; Bruno Grunzig reported “he is an Englishman without papers hence illegally drafted. He is now in the guard house at Fort Riley, Kansas for refusing service. Will be tried shortly. Writes me that he shall refuse all prison labor regardless of the consequences. …
