Biography

Vietnam War veteran and Symbionese Liberation Army member convicted with Russell Little of the November 6, 1973 assassination of Oakland Schools Superintendent Marcus Foster. Sentenced to life in 1975, he has remained incarcerated; Little's conviction was overturned but Remiro's was not. He is among the longest-held political prisoners in California.

Raised in a devout Catholic family in San Francisco, served two tours in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne before being radicalized. Founding member of the SLA in 1973 and, with Russell Little, assassinated Oakland school superintendent Marcus Foster on November 6, 1973. Arrested January 10, 1974 in Concord, California; convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life on June 27, 1975. His conviction stood on appeal and he was held at Pelican Bay State Prison; denied parole repeatedly through the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s before being paroled circa 2018.
