Biography
John Leslie headed the Chicago Communist Party delegation arrested and jailed by Sheriff Guy Donahue at Pekin (Tazewell County), Illinois on May 25, 1940 while collecting Communist ballot-petition signatures. The delegation was nearly lynched by an American Legion mob and their cars burned; Leslie gave the sworn affidavit describing the jail mistreatment.
