Biography

Jacob Falek was a conscientious objector from New York imprisoned during World War I. Court-martialed for refusing military service, he was held at Fort Leavenworth. Sentenced to 20 years - reduced to 3 years. (Documented in the Swarthmore College Peace Collection's World War I Conscientious Objectors database.) Archival note: registered for the draft on June 5, 1917 as a CO; classified as a 26; interviewed in Feb. 1919, on charges of disloyalty and disobedience of orders, by the Special Bd. at the Disciplinary Barracks ; sentenced to 20 years - reduced to 3 years; was a member of the Socialist Party
