Biography
J. Louis Engdahl Born in Minneapolis to Swedish immigrant parents. From 1914 edited the SP's national weekly The American Socialist (Chicago) — suppressed by postal authorities in 1917 — and successor The Eye Opener. Youngest of the Chicago Trial of Five defendants. Joined the Communist movement in 1921, becoming first editor of the Daily Worker, and as ILD general secretary led the Scottsboro Boys campaign. Died in Moscow Nov 21, 1932; buried at the Kremlin Wall.
