Biography

South Florida imam Hafiz Muhammed Sher Ali Khan, 76, and his sons Irfan Khan, 37, and Izhar Khan, 24, allegedly conspired with three others in Pakistan — Ali Rehman, Alam Zeb, and Amina Khan — to support the Pakistani Taliban. Amina Khan is the imam’s daughter and Zeb is his grandson. From 2008 to November 2010, the six provided money, financial services, and other forms of support to the Pakistani Taliban, the government alleges. Federal prosecutors dropped all charges against Irfan Khan, who is now suing the U.S. government alleging he was a victim of “overzealousness” by federal officials.

Case characteristics: FBI sting operation, FBI confidential informant. Organization referenced in charging documents: Taliban.
