Biography
Hugo DeGregory was a one-time Communist candidate for lieutenant-governor of Massachusetts, jailed for civil contempt in New Hampshire for refusing — even after a grant of immunity — to answer Attorney General Louis Wyman's questions about Communist associations. He challenged the state's immunity statute in the case that became DeGregory v. Attorney General of New Hampshire.
