Howard Schoenfeld

Howard Schoenfeld was an American fiction writer, editor, and pacifist who resisted conscription before the United States entered World War II. He was prosecuted in New York for refusing to register under the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940. His constitutional challenge to peacetime conscription was considered with those of other defendants in United States v. Rappeport in January 1941. Schoenfeld was imprisoned at the federal correctional institution in Danbury, Connecticut, and later described the experience in The Danbury Story. His literary work included science fiction, fantasy, and the crime novel Let Them Eat Bullets.
