Biography
Herbert Hawkins was a Philadelphia Black Panther and Vietnam veteran. Police arrested him at the Party’s Mantua office during the August 31, 1970 raids. In a 2020 interview, he recalled being publicly strip-searched and beaten at police headquarters. The report confirms two weeks in custody and the eventual dismissal of his charges. He later helped form the Black United Liberation Front and worked as a master plumber.
