Biography

Hamish Scott MacKay was a 55-year-old Portland, Oregon carpenter, in the U.S. since 1928, who had led Depression-era Workers' Alliance demonstrations for jobs. Denied citizenship in 1935 as an alleged Communist, he was deported to Canada on Nov. 18, 1960 after an 11-year fight, the Supreme Court having refused a stay 5-4.
