Biography
South Florida imam Hafiz Muhammed Sher Ali Khan, 76, and his sons Irfan Khan, 37, and Izhar Khan, 24, allegedly conspired with three others in Pakistan — Ali Rehman, Alam Zeb, and Amina Khan — to support the Pakistani Taliban. Amina Khan is the imam’s daughter and Zeb is his grandson. From 2008 to November 2010, the six provided money, financial services, and other forms of support to the Pakistani Taliban, the government alleges. In October 2019, Khan was released early on humanitarian grounds in order to receive treatment at a hospice facility.

On October 11, 2019, a federal judge granted the 84-year-old imam compassionate release to a North Carolina hospice, citing pneumonia, dementia, and cancer; the Bureau of Prisons records his release from FMC Butner that day.
