Biography

George Lakey is a Quaker activist, writer and educator in nonviolent action. During the 1963 civil-rights campaign in Chester, Pennsylvania, he joined a City Hall sit-in and spent a week in jail. In his first-person account, the judge dismissed the case after finding that a police officer had invited him to sit down.
