Biography

Gavin Weslee Blake Perry became publicly known through a threats prosecution, not through a widely documented activist role. According to federal prosecutors and congressional press coverage, he posted messages on Facebook that authorities described as advocating violence against Democratic officials, including then–House Speaker Nancy Pelosi; DOJ also reported that when confronted, he asserted he viewed the government as tyrannical and claimed officers were violating his First Amendment rights.

He was arrested in March 2020 and charged with transmitting a threatening communication in interstate commerce; the Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated after a citizen reported the posts, and the case proceeded in federal court in Wichita Falls. In May 2021, a federal jury acquitted Perry; reporting on the verdict noted the defense position that the posts were political hyperbole rather than prosecutable “true threats.”
