Biography
Gavin Seim was Libertarian activist and Congressional candidate who organized rallies protesting gun control measures and created viral videos around police accountability. In 2017 after witnessing a police officer detain a woman in a Walmart parking lot, Seim began to film the encounter and got into an argument with the officer regarding his right to film the stop, Seim was ordered to return to his car which he did and after letting the woman go the officer arrested Seim and charged him with obstruction of justice and stalking due to the fact Seim had previously filmed the same officer while recording a traffic stop over a year prior. A judge ordered Seim to provide the courts with his phone password, an act that Seim claimed was both unlawful and unnecessary due to the entire interaction having been uploaded onto Facebook. Seim fled the country to escape likely contempt charges for his refusal to provide police with his phone password and has since been granted political refugee status along with his family in Mexico.
