Biography

Fred Barreras was a member of Mine-Mill Local 890 jailed for 90 days for defying an anti-picketing injunction during the 1950s Empire Zinc strike at Bayard, New Mexico — the strike dramatized in the film Salt of the Earth. Mexican-American miners and their families sustained the picket line in defiance of the courts.
