Biography
Franklin S. Berry was a conscientious objector from Virginia imprisoned during World War I. Court-martialed for refusing military service, he was held at Fort Leavenworth. (Documented in the Swarthmore College Peace Collection's World War I Conscientious Objectors database.) Archival note: Had been examined by Judge Mack and assigned to noncombatant service at the QMC; supposedly, he refused, because he was sentenced to ten years of hard labor at Ft. Leavenworth on Nov. 9, 1918
