Biography
Elizabeth Green Kalb (1896-1973) was born in Columbus, Ohio, and was living in Houston, Texas at the time of her arrest. A graduate of Rice Institute in 1916 and a student at the University of Chicago, she was a member of the National Woman's Party and one of the "Silent Sentinels" imprisoned during the 1917-1919 campaign to picket the Wilson White House for woman suffrage. She died in Front Royal, Virginia. The exact days of her birth and death are unresolved.
She was arrested on January 13, 1919 and released on bail that afternoon, then rearrested the same evening and held overnight in the House of Detention. On January 14 she was sentenced to five days and committed to the District of Columbia Jail. No discharge record has been found; the sentence would nominally have run to January 19, but that is a calculation rather than a record and is not entered as her release date.
