Biography
Edward Drolette was one of the anti-fascists arrested in the 26 July 1935 demonstration aboard the German liner S.S. Bremen at its New York pier, in which the swastika was torn from the bow. Shot and wounded by a detective, he was charged with felonious assault; Magistrate Louis Brodsky's dismissal of the other defendants — calling the swastika a pirate flag — became an international incident.
